The fire station building of 1916 is one of a small group of municipal infrastructure buildings that were all designed by the renowned Rapperswil architect Emanuel Walcher-Gaudy (1855-1926) during or shortly after the First World War. It has a formal language that is committed to the contemporary native style and, as a striking feature, it has a tower connected to the main building. The tower element is not a mere quotation from architectural history but is functionally conditioned. In the fire station building, the tower served to hang the water hoses.

The fire station was restored to its original condition as far as possible. A façade renovation including a colour restoration was postponed at this time due to cost reasons and only necessary interventions for its preservation were carried out.

The woodwork (soffits, hatches) will be renewed. According to the documentation of the findings, the existing paint package will be reduced to the supporting surface layer and then recoated with lime or oil paint.

On the ground floor, the industrial impression of the parking hall is to be retained. All installations will remain open as before. The original plaster layers on the ceilings and walls will be retained and only strengthened. A new coat of paint is not planned. The existing layers of paint will only be cleaned and possibly partially repaired.

In the staircase, the jute cladding preserved on the upper floor is to be brought back down to the ground floor, and the roughcast plaster is to be replaced by smooth plaster used during the period of origin. The stairs will be freed from old layers of paint and repainted according to the colour survey.

The doors and fixtures will only be refitted and will not receive further treatment at this time, with the exception of the doors located at both ends of the staircase. These will be retrofitted to EI30.

The belt floors will be restored; in the kitchen and the wet rooms, tiled floors will be installed that do justice to the period of origin.
