Implementation 2021 - 2024

Two existing holiday homes located outside the building zone are to be replaced by a new building. The facades are planned in rammed earth without any additional colour additives. Unfortunately, the existing excavated material is not suitable for clay walls. For this reason, the material for the clay walls must be brought in. The walls will be rammed on site.

For flood protection reasons, the new building is raised by 40cm compared to the existing buildings. The rammed earth walls stand on a sheared exposed concrete plinth. A stainless steel profile separates the materials and provides additional splash protection for the rammed earth walls in the area of the terraces.

The windows will be inserted into prefabricated ash frames. The frames are inserted into the formwork before the rammed earth work. They are interlocked with the clay walls using dovetails and additional buckling brackets. During construction, the frames are reinforced to prevent deflection.

The purlins are connected to the frames to absorb tensile forces. In addition, tensile forces are transferred from the roof structure to the foundations via tie rods in the corners of the building.

The rammed earth work was completed by Lehm AG in the second half of June. The clay walls must dry for approx. 6 - 8 weeks before the roof can be erected. The purlin supports are then checked for settlement and reworked if necessary.
The clay construction must remain covered during the drying phase.

The simple designed façades will only be retouched once the structural work has been completed. The large roof overhangs protects them. There are no installations in the walls. The clay walls are only subjected to compressive loads. Tensile forces are transferred via built-in parts in steel or the timber construction.
